OSVALDAS ŽIEZDRYS

 

Date of birth: 19-04-1958
Place of birth: Ignotiškis village (Utena region)

From 1965 to 1973 he studied at Kuktiškės Eight-Year School (Utena region), from 1973 to 1976 – at Utena Secondary School No 2. From 1976 to 1980 he studied at Vilnius Pedagogical Institute where he acquired the speciality of a teacher of mathematics.

From 1980 till now O. Žiezdrys lives in Debeikiai (Anykščiai region).

From 1980 to 1983 O. Žiezdrys was a teacher of mathematics in Debeikiai Secondary School.

From 1983 to 1987 he was a Deputy Chairman of ‘Ateities’ Kolkhoz in Anykščiai region (centre – Debeikiai).

From 1987 to 1997 O. Žiezdrys was a Director of Aknysta Nursing Home (Anykščiai region). He was the first in Lithuania who started the project of decentralization of state care institutions for the disabled – he established the first branch of the nursing home in Debeikiai (1995).

From 1998 to 2008 O. Žiezdrys was employed with Utena County Governor’s Administration. From 1998 to 2008 he was a Head of the Office of Social Affairs and Education, Director of the Department of Social Affairs and Education, in 2008, when the structure of administration was changed, he became a Director of the Department of Social Services, Culture and Tourism.

From 1998 to 1999 O. Žiezdrys continued his studies at Vilnius University, in 1999/2001 he completed the Master’s studies at Vilnius University and was qualified as a Social Worker.

Since December 2008 he has been a Director of Utena Social Care Home.

He is also a board member of the Association of the Heads of Care Institutions GLOBA.

In his spare time he enjoys fishing, hunting, he is a member of Lithuanian Hunters’ and Fishers’ Society.

His wife Julija Žiezdrienė (born in 1958) is a teacher of mathematics. Children: Vaida (born in  1979) – social worker, Sigitas (born in 1981), Virginija (born in 1988).
